Public Policy

Your Public Policy group has been hard at work putting together plans for the 2019 season.  Last spring, we created goals of increased awareness and education for Title IX and Equal Pay for Women. 

We strongly encourage ALL our members to show your support by participating in these important activities.
So, please put these dates on your calendar.

MOVIE: Sporting Chance –
The Lasting Legacy of Title IX
Universalist Unitarian Church Fellowship Hall

Film and Speaker presentation on the history and events leading up to the Title IX Amendment giving women and girls equal rights in all areas of public school education.  The film is entitled “Sporting Chance” and is narrated by Holly Hunter.  After viewing this 48 minute film we will have a speaker presentation on how this amendment has been implemented and threats it faces today. This is a do-not-miss opportunity learn and participate in an important discussion.

EQUAL PAY DAY PROCLAMATIONS

Suzanne Jones will again accept the Equal Pay Day Proclamations and present a short response on the facts surrounding the gender pay gap. This is the 4thyear your branch has requested support for equal pay for women by our city and county governmental boards.  This year there will be a new spin on what we request!  Come and see and wear RED!

*Indian River County Board of Commissioners meeting on
Tuesday, March 26 at 9 a.m.  The meeting is held in the Board Chambers located at 1801 27thSt., V.B.

*The City of Vero Beach City Council Meeting on
Tuesday, April 2 at 5 p.m. located in the board chambers at 1053 20thPlace, V.B.

Women’s pay is in the RED…..still.  We continue to only make 80% of men’s pay for equal or comparative work.  This year we are inviting local dignitaries and the general public to enjoy a wonderful Vero Beach Country Club lunch and hear a presentation on the history of women in this country and how we are still fighting for an equal rights amendment and equal pay.  We are today’s activists in a long history of women who have come before us.
We hope you will come and Please wear something RED!
